#5 The Wizard of Oz

In the Wizard of Oz, we can all find one thing that relates to life in general. The yellow brick road for example, reminds me of the righteous path that some people travel in order to achieve godliness. Besides that, the Wicked Witch reminds me of tribulations that follow us and try to bring us down. Overall, this movie teaches many important lessons in one.

A Real Renaissance “Man”

I know that it is a bit cliche to say that Michael Jackson was a modern day Renaissance man but he truly was. He was a musical genius, not to mention his genius way of performing.  Even though you have to be educated in many subjects to be qualified as a Renaissance man, music in itself is extremely important in our culture today, not to mention keeping the public’s attention. Overall, I believe that Michael Jackson qualifies as a modern day Renaissance man.

GHOSTS.

During the English Renaissance, people believed that if a ghost was seen, it had a purpose for revealing itself. Certain things, such as whistling at night, were thought to might a ghost appear. The church taught that ghosts were devils in disguise and to be extremely cautious of them and to ward them away with certain prayers. Today, however, most of us know that none of these things are really true and, to be honest, I do not know of any recent superstitions about ghosts. My great aunt used to swear that when her brother was lost for 3 days, while he was in the Vietnam War, they would hear footsteps every night and a light would make circles around his picture in the living room..but who is to say that is really true? Ha..

In Jasper, many people consider old churches like Macedonia Baptist Church to be haunted but as in worldwide, I have absolutely no clue. I believe that people today are so fascinated with ghosts because we all need answers to everything, and ghosts are a mystery that we can’t completely solve.

Since this short video clip is from the movie Shrek, of course the main character would be one of the heroes. He rescues Fiona along with many other victories in order to save his swamp. Even though he had himself in mind while completing this victory, he still had many characteristics of a hero, one being the fact that he defeated enemies along the way. Many people consider a hero to be someone who goes above and beyond in order to do a good deed. Consider Donkey. Donkey or “the Noble Steed” tags along with Shrek and proves to be great help. I find it funny that we’re comparing a real hero to cartoon characters. Ha. I guess that means we all have our own ideas of who or what a real hero is.

If I take all of the characteristics I used to describe a hero from the video clip, Beowulf would obviously qualify as a hero. He risks his own life to defeat Grendel and to save the town from anymore casualties from his late night snacking antics.

Heroes in Haiti

I chose this video because it depicts the true qualities of a hero.

Why must we do this? :/

Hm.  I’m not exactly sure how I feel about blogging. I guess it’s better than all of us expressing ourselves out loud during class.  Yes, I’ve “blogged” before but it wasn’t my favorite. It’s better to do this kind of assignment for homework because you can’t lose it.
